 History

The Madasz Funeral Home was founded in August of 1949 by John Madasz, Jr., just west of the present day location on Warren-Sharon Rd, Brookfield. In 1953, he and his wife, the former Caroline Zoltai, bought a second funeral home on Broadway Avenue, Masury, which they operated until 1983. A historic house located near the village green of Brookfield was purchased in 1954 and today is still the present day location of the funeral home.

This house, which was built in 1816 as the former Hinckley Hotel, was known as a stagecoach stop. Two additional viewing rooms were added to the house, one in 1961 and the last in 1983. The funeral home was featured on a commemorative plate for the Brookfield Heritage Days in 1980. John and Caroline had three children: John Madasz, III, Diane Madison, and Larry Madasz. Both John III & Larry worked as funeral directors at the funeral home. In 1996, Brook Park Cremation Center was added to the property to become the first crematory in the entire Shenango Valley as well as in Trumbull County.

When Larry retired in 2002, Joseph D. Lane, President of Lane Funeral Homes, another family funeral business with a rich area history dating back to 1855, purchased the funeral home. It was renamed the Lane Funeral Homes - Madasz Funeral Chapel to honor the heritage that the Madasz's created.
