Leora (Burns) Dyett, 92, of Champion died at her home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 following a brief illness. She was born August 9, 1920 in Bagdad, PA; daughter of the late James H. and Anna Mary (Tantlinger) Burns.
She married Ronald W. Dyett on November 10, 1943 and they shared a happy and loving life together until his passing on September 13, 1981. Prior to her marriage she worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and was nicknamed "Burnsy" by her coworkers.
Mrs. Dyett was a loving and wonderful mother to her children Ronald L., Larry V., Robert G. and Colleen F. Dyett. She was a gifted hand-quilter designing and making over a dozen wholecloth quilts in addition to numerous pieced quilts. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening (she could make anything grow), cooking and baking. Her holiday dinners were delicious feasts. She was a faithful member of Champion Presbyterian Church and had served as a Deaconess. She had also been a member of the Cortland-Bazetta Historical Society and the Morning Light Chapter No. 80 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was well-known for her quick wit and sense of humor as well as her generous and caring nature. She loved baseball and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians; she could quote stats and career information about Indians players and her family knew better than to interrupt her enjoyment of the World Series regardless of who was playing.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Dyett, and sons, Larry (Eileen) Dyett, Robert Dyett, daughter-in-law, Sue (Ronald L.) Dyett, and brother, Dean Burns; six grandchildren: Linda (Mo) Heasley, Andrew (Cory) Dyett, Matthew (Brittney) Dyett, Alissa (Brian) Nichols, Christopher Dyett, and Seth Dyett; four great-grandchildren: Sarah Daniels, Annika and Ava Nichols, and Connor Dyett.
Mrs. Dyett was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Mary Burns, husband, Ronald W. Dyett, son, Ronald L. Dyett, six sisters: Gertrude Bowser, Mary Cogley McCormick, Viola Metzler, Alverta Burns, Fay Sanford and Ruth Snyder; seven brothers: Roy, Elmer, Donald, Kenneth, Glenn, Lewis and Earl Burns.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Champion Presbyterian Church and also one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Champion Township Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Champion Presbyterian Church. To send online condolences or view the obituary go to www.robertsclarkchapel.com
