Austintown- Funeral services will be 11:30 am Thursday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church for Albert Wilkes who died Sunday evening at Omni Manor Nursing Home. Albert was born June 28, 1925 in McDonald the son of Albert F. and Henrietta (Canby) Wilkes Sr. and was a life long area resident. Albert was a member of the church, retired in 1980 from U.S. Steel McDonald works where had worked in the store room for 33 years. He was past President of U.S. Steel Local 1307, Past President of McDonald Community Federal Credit Union, Former Financial secretary for McDonald Relief and Hospitalization. Albert also was a 32 degree Mason in St. Alban’s Lodge F&AM, Royal Arch Masons of Ohio # 93, St. Johns Commandery # 020 and the Al Koran Shrine. He graduated from McDonald High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Marines in WWII and the Korean War. Albert is survived by his wife of 61 years Wilma “Peg” Dodson whom he married January 28, 1946 and his daughter and son in law, Terri Wilkes and Ronald Paris of Boardman, brother; Arthur Wilkes of Montclair, CA., sister; Henrietta Melton in CA. and beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister Rebecca Morgan and brothers; John, Guy and Richmond Wilkes. Family and friends may call from 10am to 11:30 am Thursday at the church. The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of the Valley.
