Alexander "Alex" Neral of Masury, Ohio, died at 3:38 PM Sunday (2-8-2009) in the Sharon Regional Health Care System following a brief illness. He was 90. Mr. Neral was born at home in Brookfield, Ohio on March 5, 1918, a son of Stephen and Anastasia (Novakovich) Neral. A 1936 graduate from Brookfield High School, Alex went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during WWII, campaigning in Northern Africa and Italy. Mr. Neral retired from National Castings Division of Midland-Ross in 1980 after 43 years as a coremaker. Survivors include: his son, John Neral, Frostburg, Maryland; his step-daughter, Betty Dunn, Youngstown, Ohio; his grandchildren, Katie Neral, Emily Neral, and Ronald Distransky & his wife Connie; his great-granddaughter, Adina Scarpelli; his sisters, Frances Deronja, Farrell, Pennsylvania, and Ann Zurko, Masury; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Ila Mae (Egger) Neral, whom he married December 30, 1950, who died March 7, 1996; by his brother, Steve Neral; and by his sisters, Mary Neral, Helen Golubic, Catherine Morocco, & Barbara Lakatos. In accordance with Alex's wishes, a private funeral will be held Thursday (2-12-2009) at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, Brookfield, with Rev. Dan Cesene, officiating. Burial will be in Brookfield Township Cemetery. The family would like to express its appreciation to Dr. David D'Amore, Dr. Craig McKinney, and the staff in the ICU at Sharon Regional for their kindness and compassion in recent weeks.
