Alice C. Hoffman

Mrs. Alice C. Hoffman of Brookfield, Ohio passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at 2:48 PM on Monday August 13, 2012 in the Sharon Regional Health System. She was 90 years old. Alice was born in Brookfield, Ohio the daughter of George R. and Nora (Hayes) Chiverton on April 1, 1922. She was a 1940 Alumna of Brookfield High School, and began furthering her education at Kent State University before graduating in 1955 from what was then Youngstown College. A longtime educator, Mrs. Hoffman taught for more than thirty years for the Brookfield Local School District before her retirement. Alice was a tutor for many years at both her home and at the Brookfield United Methodist Church where she had been a longtime devoted member. She was a member of many local organizations including the College Club of Sharon, AARP # 3775 of Sharon, the Hartford Order of the Eastern Star #518, National Retired Teachers Association, Trumbull County Retired Teachers Association, and the Brookfield Retired Teachers Association. Alice was also a member of several area Bridge Clubs, had enjoyed volunteering at Hillside Hospital, and also spent time reading and tutoring children at Grace Lutheran Church in Farrell, PA. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Gracia Hoffman and her husband Roger of Brookfield, OH; her son George Hoffman and his wife Deborah of Maple Heights, OH; three grandchildren Brian L. Hoffman and his wife Elizabeth of Hubbard, OH; Aaron Hoffman and his wife Michelle of Cleveland, OH, and Adam Hoffman also of Cleveland, OH; her new beloved great-grandson Ronac Hoffman; as well as several beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband of more than thirty-four years Carl Hoffman whom she married on August 28, 1943 and passed away on October 29, 1977. Funeral services will be held at 6:00PM on Wednesday evening August 15, 2012 at the Brookfield United Methodist Church 6951 Grove Street Brookfield, Ohio 44403 with the Rev. Joyce Lawson officiating. Lane Family Funeral Homes Madasz Chapel in Brookfield was entrusted with the arrangements for Mrs. Hoffman. Burial will take place next to her husband at the Brookfield Township Cemetery on Thursday morning.
