Andrew T. Vojtko

Andrew Vojtko of John XXIII, Hermitage, PA, formerly of Brookfield Twp., Ohio, died on Monday (8-21-2006) in the Sharon Regional Health Care System. He was 87. Mr. Vojtko was born in Lloydell, PA on January 1, 1919, a son of Michael and Mary (Surmick) Vojtko. A 1936 graduate from Beaverdale High School, Andy furthered his education by attending classes at Penn State University, Sharon, PA. Andrew went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during WWII. His decorations and citations include: the American Theater Ribbon, European – American Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Vojtko retired from Westinghouse Electric in 1978 after 42 years as a Production Co-ordinator. He was a charter member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Masury, OH, where he was a former usher, choir member, councilman, as well as active with bingo and the church picnics; Life Member of the former VFW Post #8860, Masury, where he held the position of Quarter Master for over 50+ years; Knights of Columbus Post #3984, Masury; Life Member of Vienna VFW Post #3521; and he was the Flag Co-ordinator & Clerk for the Brookfield Township Veterans, where he maintained records and placed American Flags of all the Veterans’ Graves. In his spare time, he enjoyed floral gardening. Many nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, John & Michael Vojtko; and by his sisters, Anne Estok, Susan Dobis, Margaret Latsko, Helen Salem, & Mary Morrison. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, with Rev. Frank Zanni, Pastor. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6-8 PM at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield. Burial will be Brookfield Township Cemetery with full military honors.
