Cortland - Anthony M. Diakakis, 74, passed away Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Anthony was born April 26, 1938, in Rhodes Greece, the son of the late Michael A. and Persefoni (Spanou) Diakakis. He moved to Warren as a young child and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Intrepid. Anthony retired in 2009 from Warren Fabricating as a machinist where he worked for 35 years. He was an avid car enthusiast and loved restoring his antique automobiles in his garage where you would find him listening and singing to the radio. He also enjoyed more than 45 years of raising and breeding German Shepherd Dogs. Anthony is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Kalliope "Clara" (Economos) Diakakis and two daughters, Persefoni Diakakis of Cortland and Marilyn (Roger) Warnock of Houston, TX and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Pagonakis of Broadview Heights, Connie "Tina" Stacy of Howland and Marina (Dennis) Sidells of Bonita Springs, Fla. Besides his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy DiGiovanni and Marsha M. Marinelli. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland, OH with Rev. Father Constantine Valantasis officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
