Masury, Ohio- Asma Saloom 106, of Masury, OH beloved wife of Thomas Saloom, loving mother of Joseph, Emil, Edward, and Louis Saloom, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning May 21, 2014 at the O'Brien Memorial Health Center in Masury, OH. Asma was born February 15, 1908 in Thoum, Batroun, Lebanon, the daughter of the late Joseph Nakhoul and Ragbaa Abboud Nakhoul and was one of ten children, three brothers and six sisters. She studied at the School of the Nuns in Jerusalem and spoke English, French, and Arabic fluently. After marrying Thomas Joseph Saloom on Christmas Eve 1930 they immigrated to the United States of America. Asma was a hard worker and operated a grocery store for more than thirty-five years first in Sharon and later Masury until her retirement in 1971. She was totally devoted to her family and to her church, and worked for many years with the Brookfield Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary. After her retirement, Asma had traveled on five trips returning to her native Lebanon and thoroughly enjoying every one of them. She leaves behind her two sisters Violette and Guliette both of Lebanon; two sons Emil Saloom and his wife Doris of Canfield, and Louis Saloom and his wife Janalyn of Brookfield; two daughters-in-law Georgette and Phyllis Saloom; five grandchildren Thomas, Phillip, Joseph, Christopher, and Craig; and three great-grandchildren Evan, Sean Thomas, and Cole. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom who passed away on August 23, 1974, and by two sons Joseph and Edward. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00PM on Friday May 23, 2014 at the Madasz Chapel of Lane Family Funeral Homes in Brookfield, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held beginning at 11:00AM on Saturday morning May 24, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church in Sharon PA with the Father Henry C. Andrae, as Pastor. A procession will leave from the funeral home at 10:30AM. Burial will take place next to her husband at St. Elizabeth's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent Sacred Heart Church 40 South Irvine Avenue Sharon, PA 16146. A very special note of thanks to the staff at O'Brien Memorial health Center for the warm and loving care they provided to Mrs. Saloom during her time with them.
