Avila M. Lepera, 93 Canfield- A requiem mass will be offered at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 at St. Maron Parish, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown for Avila M. Lepera, 93 of Humility House, Austintown, formerly of Sleepy Hollow Dr., Canfield who passed away Wednesday afternoon at her residence. Avila was born March 31, 1920 in Marblehead, Ohio, a daughter of the late Theodore and Elizabeth Burns Pokey. She attended 8 years of Catholic grade school taught by the Dominican sisters of Michigan and graduated from Danbury High School in Ohio in 1938. Avila went on to college and graduated from Bowling Green State University with degrees in Social Studies and English. She also attended Mary Manse College in Toledo. She was a member of St. Maron's Church. Avila was a teacher in Port Clinton High School for almost 24 years. After her retirement from teaching, Avila married Robert J. Lepera in 1970. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2007. Avila leaves one niece, Carol Fielding ( James) Ruecke of Clarkston, Michigan and one nephew, Dan (Mary Ellen) Ontko of Cleveland, Ohio. Besides her parents and her husband, Avila was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Alice Ontko, Ruth Fielding; 1 niece, Irene Ontko Kilbane and 2 nephews, Joseph Fielding and Theodore Fielding. Avila will lie in state on Monday at the church from noon until the time of the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel.
