Patrick Brucoli, M.D, 78, died peacefully Monday, February 6, 2012, > surrounded by his loving family at the Hospice of the Valley's Hospice > House. > > Pat was born April 24, 1933, on Dearborn Street in Brier Hill, > Youngstown, Ohio, the first child of Benjamin and Anne (Lutseck) > Brucoli. > > He grew up on the West Side and was a graduate of Chaney High School > class of June 1951 where he played football, was the business manager > of the Gardner's Club and was class President. > > Pat attended The Ohio State University receiving his Bachelor of > Science degree in Anatomy in 1955 and his M.D. in 1959. He was a > member of the Nu Sigma Nu Fraternity, Beta Tau Chapter. While at > O.S.U. he met the love of his life, Donna Lee Ankrom of Chillicothe, > Ohio and they married on September 21, 1957. > > Dr. Brucoli completed his internship at Youngstown Hospital > Association in 1960, then served two years in the United States Air > Force in San Antonio, Texas and Sacramento, California where he > attained the rank of Captain, serving as a flight medical officer and > flight surgeon. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Buffalo > Children's Hospital. After a year of private practice in Hamburg, NY, > he returned home to Youngstown and set up his private practice on > Mahoning Avenue in 1965. > > Dr. Brucoli was a member of the Mahoning County Medical Society where > he served as President in 1980 and Public Relations Director in 1982. > He also served on the executive committee of the Youngstown Hospital > Association and was Chief of Pediatrics at Tod Babies and Children's > Hospital. He was a clinical instructor for medical students at > Northeastern Universities College of Medicine the first year NEOUCOM > students were affiliated with Youngstown hospitals. Pat was a > diplomate of American Board of Pediatrics, a Fellow of American > Academy of Pediatrics, and a member of the Ohio State and American > Medical Societies. He was a Life Member of The Ohio State > University's Presidents Club, served on the Canfield Local Schools > Board of Education for 20 years (1973-1993) and was a member of the > Canfield United Methodist Church. > > In 1993, Pat retired from active practice of pediatrics, which allowed > him to spend more time with his family. He enjoyed "quiet hobbies" of > tending to his large aquariums of tropical fish, growing tomatoes in > his garden, raising orchids in his greenhouse and photography. As a > devout Buckeye football fan, he was proud of the OSU memorabilia he > collected over the years. Pat derived the most joy spending time with > his wife, children and grandchildren at "the farm," a park-like > property that he purchased and developed over the years by planting > trees, landscaping with flowers and fountains, and stocking the > man-made pond with enough bass and bluegill to satisfy his love for > fishing. His vision and expertise created a beautiful place where > friends and family will gather for generations to come. > > > > Pat's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife Donna; three > daughters, Lynne (George) Bellish of Canfield, Laura (Bill) Mills of > Dublin, Lisa (Paul) Leahy of Carmel, Indiana, and one son Mark (Peggy) > Brucoli of Canfield; 11 grandchildren who love him as "Papa", > Stephanie (Mike) Ruark, Marisa and Patrick Bellish, Jack, Harry and > Robert Mills, Devon and Nick Leahy, Paige, Ben and Maggie Brucoli; two > sisters, Judy (Bob) Sonke, Pollock Pines, California and Karen (Frank) > Anesi, Durango, Colorado; and three nephews Craig Sonke, Ben and Nick > Anesi. > > He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John N. Brucoli, > M.D. and a nephew, Lee Sonke. > > The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of > Pat's healthcare providers over the years and to the staff at Hospice > House for their compassionate care. > > Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the > Lane Family Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, 65 N.
