Barbara J. Richards

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at Canfield Christian Church, 123 South Broad St., Canfield for Barbara J. Richards, 86 of Canfield who died Monday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Barbara was born August 2. 1926 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Osborne and Frances Beede Hinerman and was a lifelong area resident. Barbara graduated from South High School in 1944. She had worked as a long distance operator for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 15 years and had also been a school bus driver for the Canfield Schools for 14 years. She was a devoted servant of God who always helped lead her family towards him, a member of Canfield Christian Church, where she was the organist for many years, a member of the choir and had served as deaconess. Barbara was also active with the Christian Women's Fellowship of the church and had been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the Red Cross blood drives. Barbara enjoyed travelling, especially her many trips to Gettysburg; was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting and had crocheted many afghans for her family members. She leaves her husband, Delmer W. "Bud" Richards whom she married December 5, 1952; 2 sons, Daniel L. (Theresa Koneval) of Canfield, Michael (Sharon) Richards of Salem; a former daughter-in-law, Shannon Richards of Canfield; 3 grandchildren, Corey (Amber) Richards, Garrett Richards, Noah Richards ; 2 great-grandchildren, Trenten and Cason. Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a son, David Richards and a sister, Grace Gonter. Friends may call on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel and on Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Canfield Christian Church.
