AUSTINOWN-Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Monday, January 9, 2006 with the Rev. Rick Stauffer officiating in Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church for Bernard “Bernie” L. Savage of Idaho Rd. in Austintown, who passed away at 10:45 PM Wednesday in Forum Health Northside Medical Center after a six month battle with cancer. Bernie was 71. Bernie was born on December 2, 1934 in Dunbar, Pennsylvania and was the son of Foster and Alma (McDonald) Savage. Bernie retired on May 31, 1996 from General Motors Co. after working for 30 years. Bernie was a veteran of the United States Navy having served from August 20, 1952 until he was honorably discharged on November 9, 1953. Bernie was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Austintown. Bernie was a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite with the Youngstown Lodge #615 F. & A.M. Bernie was a member of the Flying Aero Association, and Ham Radio. Bernie coached Austintown Girls Softball Team and was a Deputy Sheriff for Mahoning County. Bernie enjoyed cross stitching after retiring and was an all around handyman. Bernie is survived by his wife the former Carol Davis, whom he married on October 26, 1963 in Indian Head, Pennsylvania; two children Julie A. (Dr. Jeffrey) Patterson of Austintown, and Alan W. (Sharon) Savage of East Canton; two sisters Frances (Roy) Cade of Bunnell, Florida, and Delores “Dolly” (James) Ranker of Connellsville, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren Jessica, Justin, Jacalyn, and Jordyn Patterson all of Austintown. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Schetromph. Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2006 from 5 until 8 PM in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, where a Masonic Service will be held at 8PM Sunday. Friends may also call from 10 to 11AM Monday prior to services at the church. Interment will take place in Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
