Berniece C Averill

BOARDMAN-There will be funeral services on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 10:30AM in the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Berniece C. Averill, 102, formerly of Boardman, who passed away at 2:10AM Sunday, April 15, 2007 in Maplecrest Nursing Home in Struthers. Berniece was born October 17, 1904 in Orland, Indiana the daughter of the late Thomas and Addie (Haines) Cravens. A homemaker, Berniece was a legal secretary before she was married for Judge Wood in Angola, Indiana. She live in Beirut during the 1960’s doing charity work and was a “Gray Lady” at South Side Hospital. A former member of the Canfield Methodist Church, Berniece was also a member of the First Covenant Church in Boardman, the Canfield Garden Club and was a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Angola, IN. Berniece was also known for her delicious pies and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Besides her daughter Jean Thompson of Canfield, Berniece leaves three grandchildren Carrie (James) Mestichelli of Boardman, Kenton (Lori) Thompson of Hudson, and Eric (Mary Ann) Thompson. She also leaves two great grandchildren Brock (Hannah) Thompson and Chad Thompson. Berniece was preceded in death by her husband Captain Roy Averill, whom she married August 27, 1927, and they were married for 66 years until his passing on November 18, 1993. A sister Choral Cornish, a brother Russell Cravens and a great grandson Justin Thompson also preceded her in death. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 9:30AM until hour of service in the funeral home.
