Bertha M. Gratz Amendol

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:00 AM Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, preceded by closing prayers at 9:20 AM at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Bertha M. Gratz Amendol who passed away Saturday morning at her home. Bertha was born May 4, 1930 in Youngstown a daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Simon) Gratz. She was a Charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, served on the Altar and Rosary Society at the church and belonged to its Senior Citizens. Bertha was Past President of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 301 in Austintown and recently won Auxiliary Member of the Year for 2011. Prior to retirement, she had worked many years at Petrie’s Dress Shop. Bertha will be sadly missed by her husband, William Amendol, whom she married October 28, 1950; four children: William D. Amendol Sr. of Broomfield, CO, Lawrence M. (Melody) Amendol of Austintown, Beverly (Stephen) Zentko of Poland, and Lynne (Andrew) Sinchak of Austintown; one sister: Rita (Andy) Rozum of Cleveland; one brother: Leo Gratz of Struthers; five grandchildren: William (Amy) Amendol Jr., Michelle (Anthony) Sebastiani, Stephanie (Steven) Rozman, April Zentko, and Shawn Zentko; and three great grandchildren: Matthew, Giuliana, and Mia. Besides her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by four sisters: Dorothy Malone, Dolores Thorton, Thelma Thorton, and Anna Schmitt. Friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Tuesday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel where the American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a service at 7:45 pm.
