Betty Carnahan

August 16, 1924 — December 26, 2007

Betty Carnahan of 1887 Youngstown-Kingsville Rd., Vienna, Ohio, died at 10:25 PM Wednesday (12-26-2007) in Autumn Hills Nursing Home, Niles, Ohio, following an extended illness. She was 83. Mrs. Carnahan was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania on August 16, 1924, a daughter of Ernest W. and Ivah (Wells) Krause. A 1942 graduate from Vienna High School, Betty furthered her education by obtaining a bachelor degree in music from Baldwin & Wallace College, Hiram, Ohio in 1946, where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She retired from Warren City School District after 33 years as a General & Vocal Music Teacher, where she spent the last 24 years at East Jr. High School. She was a member of the Vienna Presbyterian Church, Vienna, Ohio, where she was an Elder and former Choir Director; former Choir Director at the Niles Presbyterian Church; Life Member of the Ohio Education Association; Life Member of the National Education Association; Life Member of the Trumbull County Teachers Association; Ohio Retired Teachers Association; and Warren Women’s Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed her house plants, reading & traveling. Survivors include: her sons, Richard William “Rick” Carnahan & his wife Lori, Brookfield, OH, and Keith Alan Carnahan & his wife Carolyn, El Paso, TX; her grandchildren, Craig, Ross, Kaitlin and her step-granddaughter, Jolene. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Homer R. “Dick” Carnahan, whom she married August 16, 1952, he died November 13, 1988. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield, Ohio, with Rev. David Black, Pastor of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Warren, Ohio, officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vienna Township Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund at the Vienna Presbyterian Church. Family & Friends can send condolences to www.madaszchapel.com.
