Betty Claire Bowser

Betty Claire (Weaver) Bowser, 85, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2011. Betty, daughter of Bertha Little and Sheridan L. Weaver, Sr., was born on March 26, 1926. She was a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area. Betty was a graduate of south High School. She followed in the footsteps of her father becoming one of the first women to graduate from The Ohio State University School of Optometry. She was a clinical instructor at the school while her husband, Thomas G. Bowser, Jr. pursued his degree as a dentist. They were married August 21, 1947 and celebrated 62 years of married life before his passing in 2010. Upon her husbands graduation from dental school, Betty retired to pursue a full time position raising their family. She was a very caring and nurturing mother to their four children, Thomas G. Bowser III (Marilyn) of Canfield, Judith Baird (Todd) of Canfield, Jeffrey Bowser (Tracy) of Orlando, Florida and Laurie Bowser-Sever (Don of Cary, North Carolina. She and her husband were actively involved with the children as advisors of the Canfield Rhythm Riders Club. Truly a fine lady who instilled such values as honesty, hard work and kindness, she will be greatly missed by all of them as well as her 11 grandchildren, Bo Bowser (Sara), Jessica (Benjamin Zavala), Katie Bowser, Bobi Jo (Greg Piper), Ken Tierney, Abby (Michael Gorby), Bryce, Brynn and Cameron Bowser and Samantha and Megan Sever as well as her 2 great grandchildren, Amelie Claire and Maximus Zavala. Betty was actively serving in many organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the Youngstown Optiqueens and past president of the Canfield Red Hatters. She donated her time and talents to Canfield Presbyterian Operation Blessing. Betty was very active in the Salvation Army Women's Auxilliary and believed in the work they did in the community. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the auxiliary and sent in care of Carol Bigelow, 1501 Glenwood Ave. Youngstown, OH 44511. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
