Betty Jane Michalski

Betty Jane Michalski, 94, of Greene Township died Sunday, December 13, 2015 at St. Joseph Heath Center, surrounded by her family. Betty was born on November 25, 1921 in Greene Township a daughter of the late Henry and Gladys (Hitchcock) Manes. Betty was a 1939 graduate of Greene High School. She worked for Maplewood North Elementary School as a cook for 20 years. Betty was a proud member of Greene Church of the Nazarene and the Women's Auxiliary VFW Post 3976 and 7200. In her free time she enjoyed cooking, solving word search puzzles, and watching the Cleveland Indians play baseball. Her most precious time was spent with her children and grandchildren whom she adored. She leaves behind her children; B.J. Geiwitz of Greene Township, Annette (Ken) Maraczi of Mecca, Susan (Steve) Kintz of Vernon Township and Mike (Denise) of Orwell, seven grandchildren; Marya (Dan) Denman, Heather (David) Duve, Anthony Kintz, Steve (Miranda) Kintz Jr., Jessica Michalski, Brian Gaiser and Derrick (Amanda) Singrey, eight great grandchildren; Crystal, Carey and Daniel Denman, Sebastian and Dominic Duve, Myra and Ava Kintz and Isaac Singrey. Betty also leaves behind a sister Nancy Thompson, a brother John Manes and a sister in-law Patty Rae Manes. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband the love of her life, John Michalski. They were married on December 22, 1942, John died on March 4, 2001; they were married for 59 years. Betty was also preceded in death by her siblings; Nellie Liddle, Mildred Villers, Leslie Agardi, Patty Varner, Henry Manes and Harlan Manes. Funeral services will be held Thursday December 17, 2015 at 12:00 pm at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel 164 N. High St. Cortland, OH 44410, with Pastor James Elkin officiating. Family and friends may call from 10:00 am until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers the family asks the memorial contribution take place in the form of donation to Greene or Mecca Fire department or Greene Nazarene Church.
