Betty Lou Hess Downing, 84 of Champion Township died at 5:03 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Windsor House of Champion. She was born October 23, 1928 in Onalaska, Washington the daughter of the late Clarence Pittman and Thelma Ellen Laney Hess Pittman. She was raised in Bristolville and moved back to Trumbull county from Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Betty graduated from Bristolville High School. She worked for over 20 years at Western Auto Company and retired from Walmart after 18 years service. Betty was a member of Bristolville United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday school many years ago. She had been a member of the Children's Conservation League in Bristolville when her children were young. She is survived by her three sons, Dennis (Kathy) Downing of Newton Falls, David (Patricia) Downing of Cortland and Danny (Kathleen) Downing of Champion; eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson and two brothers, Junior Pittman of Arizona and Russell Pittman of Calif. Two sisters, Wilma Contrares and Jean Carl have both preceded her in death. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Marvin Barney will officiate. Burial will be at Champion Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
