Betty N. Brown, 91, of Howland Twp. passed away peacefully at 1:45 PM Saturday Oct. 16, 2010 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was born May 24, 1919 in Warren the daughter of George S. Newhard and Emma Christena Gates Schaible. A lifetime area resident, Betty formerly was employed by Copperweld Steel, Mullins Mfg, and Howard Shields. She was a loving and devoted homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid collector of Salt and pepper shakers. Her favorite pastime of all was following the Cleveland Indians. She formerly was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warren, Bolindale Booster Club, and the Howland Ladies Fire Auxiliary. Her husband George Brown Sr. whom she married Sept.9, 1940 preceded her in death Sept.21, 1977. She also was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Genet, a grandson Edward Phillips, a great grandchild, a sister Doris Smith, half sister Doretta Janik, half brother Raymond Newhard, and by a nephew. She will be missed by her children Ellen Rowland of Warren, Christena Little of Houston, TX, Mary (Michael) Groom of Warren, and Fire Chief George (Edith) Brown Jr. of Howland. Betty also leaves 13 grandchildren; Timothy Phillips, David (Marian)Phillips, Ronnie Phillips, all of Warren, Laurie (Jim) McGuire, William Rowland, both of Dallas, TX, Tammy (Michael) Tolin of Houston, TX, James (Gina) Diamond of Warren, Douglas (Billie) Diamond of Houston, Michele Groom of Warren, Michael (Laurie) Groom of Colorado Springs, CO, Mark Groom of Warren, Kimberly (Joe) Petrusek of Seattle, WA, Danielle (Greg) Murray of Houston, 38 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. She also leaves 2 half sisters Nancy Newhard of Ann Arbor, MI, Donna (Thomas) Terhune of Plymouth, MI, 3 nieces and 1 nephew. The Rev. James Baer will officiate at a private memorial service. Interment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park. The family requests material contributions be made to the Howland Volunteer Fire Dept. Inc. 169 Niles Cortland Rd. NE Warren, OH 44484. Roberts-Clark Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Autumn Hills Care Center and the staff of 6East- Trumbull Memorial Hospital for the care that Betty received.
