Canfield-Memorial services will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Canfield United Methodist Church for Betty Anderson who died peacefully Saturday at her residence from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Betty was born January 25, 1923 in Morgantown, West Virginia, the daughter of Donald and Ella (Boyles) Russell. Betty was a member of Canfield United Methodist Church. She was very active in the Canfield Women’s Club and Bridge Club. She reorganized and was very active in the leadership of Bridge-A-Rama until a year ago; Betty was an active member of the Friendship Club of Canfield, an avid golfer, tennis player and bridge player. She won numerous blue ribbons at the Canfield Fair for her embroidery and needlework. She was also the 1938 West Virginia State 4H winner for embroidery. Prior to moving to the Canfield area in 1969, Betty lived in Mansfield, OH. where she was active in the Park Ave. West Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher and Church Treasurer. She had also been a Girl Scout leader and served on the Richland County Girl Scout Board and was one of the original consultants for Longaberger Baskets. She was a graduate of West Virginia University majoring in English and had been a substitute teacher in Mansfield. Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, A. James “Jim” Anderson whom she married June 22, 1946, daughters; Sandy McCrea of Sandusky, OH. and Vicki (Steve) Buchenroth of Worthington, OH. six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Family and friends may call from 1pm until time of services Wednesday at the church.
