Bonnie Ditchey, RN – 62 Austintown – Bonnie Ditchey, R.N., 62, died of a brain tumor Friday morning after having been diagnosed in July 2002. She was born January 14, 1942 in Berlin Center, OH to Walter and Margaret Grondeski and lived most of her life in Newton Falls and Austintown. Bonnie graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1960, attended the University of Akron and received her nursing degree from YSU in 1975. She began her nursing career at St. Elizabeth’s and was an operating room Registered Nurse at Northside Hospital for 27 years before retiring in 2003. Bonnie liked singers Julio Iglesias and Tom Jones, Bill O’Reilly, actor Brian Dennehey, Fox News, President Bush, the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Football. She enjoyed lighthouses, shopping, antiques, seagulls, cardinals, Christmas music, old movies, NYPD Blue and Everybody Loves Raymond. Her greatest pleasures were her time spent as an operating room nurse (especially neurosurgery) and more than anything else her family, neighbors and wonderful friends from Northside Hospital. She leaves her father Walter Grondeski of Newton Falls; three children with her ex-husband Jack Ditchey, Melanie Ditchey, SA-C of Austintown, Attorney Timothy J. Ditchey of Cleveland, Attorney Matt Ditchey of Youngstown and; a grandson, Ryan Ditchey and granddaughter, Jackie Serra both of Austintown; a sister, Maryann Williams and niece Angela Lukacic both of Newton Falls; and three cats. She was preceded in death by her mother Margaret Grondeski on January 1, 1980; her beloved grandma “Baba”, June 30, 1972; her Uncle George in December of 1988, stepmother, Anne Grondeski in December 17, 2002 and her cat Sara in 2001. The picture accompanying this tribute was taken in July 2003 in West Virginia when Bonnie met singer Tom Jones. Calling hours will be at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave. on Monday, 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 737 Ridge Rd. (Route 534) in Newton Falls. She will be buried in St. Michael’s Cemetery on Tomlinson Rd. in Newton Falls. The family requests material contributions be made to Forum Health Hospice or to Angels for Animals
