Burton Leroy Kennedy

Austintown - Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Burton (Burt) Kennedy of Austintown who died Friday at his residence. Mr. Kennedy was born January 1, 1919 in Blue Ball PA. the son of George Burton and Margaret Ann McCloskey Kennedy and moved to the Youngstown area in 1949. Mr. Kennedy retired from Utilities Coating in 1982 where he had worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. He had also worked at Wilt-Crest Farms, Mahoning Express, International Harvester, Lewis Excavation and Canfield Tractor Sales. Burton loved to work and always kept himself busy. He was a decorated WWII Army Veteran serving as a Technical Sergeant with the 834th Engineers Aviation Battalion in Central Europe, Rhineland, Northern France and Normandy. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European Africa Middle Eastern, Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. He is survived by a daughter Robin Kennedy of Austintown, sons; Gary (Michelle) Kennedy, Kelly (Mary Jean) Kennedy both of Austintown, Casey (Gayle) Kennedy of North Jackson, brothers; Delbert of Niagara Falls NY., James of Altoona PA., Earl of Dysart PA. sisters; Mildred Eckenroth of Centre Hall PA., Olive Mae Leberfinger of Hollidaysburg PA. grandchildren; Timothy S. Kennedy, Stacey L. Williams, Melanie Kennedy and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Volpe Kennedy whom he married October 1, 1949 died April 22, 1981. Family and friends may call from 6-8 pm Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. The family requests that Memorial Tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley.
