Carl G. Nelson

Austintown- Memorial services will be held 2 PM Sat. at the Austintown Community Church for Carl G. Nelson age 87 of Austintown who died Tuesday afternoon at Briarfield Manor. Carl was born September 26, 1917 in Austintown and was the son of Gust and Ellen Nelson. He retired a number of years ago from U.S. Steel where he had been a foreman. He was a member of Austintown Community Church, was a 1937 graduate of Fitch High School, was an avid basketball player, sports fan, golfer and bowler, bowling on the Senior Citizens Bowling League at Wedgwood Lanes. Carl also enjoyed carpentry, painting, gardening and working outdoors. Carl is survived by his wife the former Grace Bogner whom he married July 2, 1937. He also leaves a daughter Sally Nelson Cullinan and a son Ronald Carl (Elizabeth) Nelson both of Austintown. Carl leaves three sisters Isabelle Chisholm , Betty Kreider both of Boardman, Esther Hammar of Utah, a granddaughter Colleen Craig, three step granddaughters and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Dorothy Dalton, Edith Lipps and Eleanor Lutz. The family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley.
