Carl Otto Larsen

Carl O. Larsen, age 90, of Vienna died Thursday at 5:30 pm, November 6, 2008, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.He was born December 18, 1917 in Plymouth, Mass. the son of the late John and Signe (Johansen) Larsen. Carl was a 1937 graduate of Welland Vocational High School in Welland, Ontario, Canada where he was quarterback of the football team. He served as a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in Burma, India, North Africca and China. He worked for 38 years at Packard Electric as a tool design engineer, retiring in 1983. Carl was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church, where he had served as chairman of the board of elders and was a member of the Men's Fellowship. He was a life member of VFW Post No. 1090 in Warren, member of the China-Burma-India Veterans Group of the Mahoning Valley, member of the Scandanavian Lodge of America, member of the Good Sams Club of America, had served as band manager of the Warren Junior Military Band, and had been active with the Boy Scouts in Vienna. Carl enjoyed camping, hiking, woodworking and was a history buff. His wife, Edith Helen Starcher Larsen, whom he married November 28, 1942, preceded in death February 5, 2008. One son, Carl Richard Larsen; two brothers, Warren and Norman Larsen and a son-in-law, Richard Wolfe all preceded in death, also. He is survived by four children, Chris (Barbara) Larsen of Ayden, NC; Dorothy Wolfe of Warren; Paul (Melissa) Larsen of Campbell, OH and Carol Larsen of Warren; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Larsen of Niles; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Larsen of Whittier, Calif. and one sister, Thelma Phillips of Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada. Arrangements are being handled by Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 1:30 pm Monday, November 10, 2008 with Rev. Ruth Roth officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. Material contributions may be made to the memorial fund at the church or to the Cortland American Legion Post No. 540, Hospitalers Fund, 5789 Louise Ave. N.W., Warren 44483.
