Carol J. (Zetts) Helmick

Carol J. (Zetts) Helmick, of Berlin Center, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010 in her home. She was 65 years old. Carol was born on November 5, 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of the late Joseph M and Margaret L. (Lesko) Zetts and was a 1963 graduate of North High School in Youngstown. Carol graduated from the Hannah School of Nursing in Salem and attended Secretarial School at YSU. Carol retired in 2005 from Briarfield at Ashley Circle where she was a licensed practical nurse for 22 years. Carol was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes St. Catherine Church in Lake Milton and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She enjoyed gardening, birds, collecting butterfly pins and attending to her flock of chickens. Carol was married on May 30, 1964 to David G. Helmick and they were married for 18 years until his passing on September 29, 1982. Carol is survived by two children Lisa (Patrick) Higgins of Newton Falls and David (Michelle) Helmick of Berlin Center; two brothers Ronald (Rose Mary) Zetts of Boardman and Lawrence G. Zetts of Campbell; a sister Jeanette (Louis) Tofil of Campbell; and five grandchildren David E. Helmick, Alyssa A. Higgins, Daniel T. Helmick, Erin E. Helmick and Ryan W. Higgins. Besides her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by a sister Janice Zetts. Calling hours for Carol will take place on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 5 until 8 PM in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave, Austintown, Ohio, 44515. A Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. David W. Merzweiler will take place on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lakes St. Catherine Church 1254 Grandview Road, Lake Milton, Ohio, 44429, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home prior in leaving for the church.
