Carol Jean Downs -- 64 Austintown—Services will be 11 am Thursday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Carol Jean Downs, 64, of Austintown who passed away Sunday at her home after a short illness. Carol was born July 24, 1940 in Distant PA., the daughter of Harry “Bood” Jr. and Ethel (Burford) Horne. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Carol was a member of First United Methodist Church of West Austintown, and enjoyed Bingo and trips to Mountaineer. She leaves her husband David Q. Downs whom she married July 5, 1958 in Brookville Pa, two daughters Kim Calai (Chuck Roberts) of Lordstown, and Denise (Ken) Sommers of Austintown, a step-son Dave Downs of New Bethlehem, Pa, a brother Darwin “Butch” Horne of Pittsburgh, four grandchildren; Kenny (Lindsey Meador) Sommers of Aiken, S. Carolina, Bryan (Jessi Cariglio) Calai of Lordstown, Cory Sommers of Austintown, and Brittany Carol Calai of Lordstown, and a great-grandson Dominik Lalai of Lordstown. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
