A memorial services will be held on October 3, 2011 in Canfield Presbyterian Church for Catesby Berry "Cates" Cannon, 90, of Canfield who passed away Friday evening, September 9, 2011, at his home. Catesby was born September 17, 1920 in St. Louis, MO., the son of Catesby Berry Cannon Sr., and Elsie (Johnson) Cannon. He was a graduate of Boardman High School and a 1942 graduate of Muskingham College before joining the U.S. Navy. He was a Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean War, serving from 1942 to 1958, both in active duty and the reserves. He retired in 1985 as the Assistant Managing Editor for the Youngstown Vindicator. Catesby was a member of Canfield Presbyterian Church, enjoyed scuba diving, an avid reader and loved to garden. He had a large garden and seemed happiest on his tractor. He and his wife Emma Lou were the first host family for exchange students in Canfield in 1963. Catesby leaves his wife of 67 years, the former Emma Lou "Gibby" Johnson, whom he married January 14, 1944. He also leaves a daughter Joan Baumberger of Ft. Pierce, FL., his exchange student daughter, Susana Castano Schultz and her husband Martin of Greenville, N.C., a daughter-in-law, Myra Gong of Honolulu, HI. , as well as four grandchildren, Amy Baumberger of Denver, CO., Chip (Priscilla) Baumberger of Ft. Pierce, FL., Juan Christopher (Natasha) Schultz of Honolulu, HI., and Carla (Eric) Fiessinger of Ashville, N.C., and his life long friend Charles "Bud" Clifford of Lincoln, NB. Besides his parents, Catesby was preceded in death by one son, C. Berry Cannon III, and two brothers, Robert J. and Allen W. Cannon. The family will receive friends from until the time of services. Arrangements were by Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel.
