Catherine M. (O'Bruba) Derkach, age 83, of Cortland, formerly of Hubbard, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 3:10 AM at Windsor House of Champion in Warren, Ohio She was born on December 15, 1923 in McDonald, OH., the daughter of the late Michael O'Bruba and the late Josephine (Pirhalla) O'Bruba. Mrs. Derkach was a veteran of the United States Army (WAC) during WWII, and a former member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Hubbard. She was a homemaker and enjoyed bowling, traveling to Las Vegas, playing cards and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband, Frank Derkach, whom she married on October 20, 1943, preceded her in death on February 5, 2001. She is survived by her son Richard (Caroline) Derkach of Cortland. A brother, Robert O'Bruba of Ft. Myers, FL. Two sisters, Doris Knoblich of West Islip, NY., and Audrey Lewis of Ft. Myers, FL. Three granddaughters, Jacqueline (David) Dick of Cortland, Christine Daughtery of Girard and Heather Derkach of Warren. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Ashley and Bryan Daugherty of Girard and Emily and Dakota Dick of Cortland. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond O'Bruba. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, where the family will receive friends on Saturday May 12, 2007 from 10 AM - 11 AM with a funeral service at the funeral home at 11 AM Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio Family and friends may view this obituary and send condolences at: www.shaferwinanschapel.com
