There will be a mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Charles A. Gearhart of Austintown who passed away Sunday morning at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Charles was born October 30, 1920 in Luthersburg, PA a son of the late Charles and Daisy (Timlin) Gearhart, and came to Youngstown in 1923. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown and its senior citizens group. Charles was a truck driver for over 35 years, retiring from Halls Trucking in 1984. He had previously worked for Loblaws, and Jewel Tea. Charles was a member of the Teamsters, VFW Post 3538 in Struthers, a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan and once had a tryout with the St. Louis Browns pro baseball team. He served in the United States Army as a M.P. in Europe after WWII. His wife the former Marie Morin whom he married July 17, 1951, passed away on January 10, 2003. Charles is survived by two children: John (Phyllis) Gearhart and Linda (James) Gerberry both of Mineral Ridge; one sister Myrtle (James) Vitez of Youngstown; one brother Howard of Uniontown, PA; seven grandchildren: Peter, John, James, Jennifer, Steven, David, and Sarah; and three great grandchildren: Steven, Daniel, and Megan. Beside his parents and wife, two brothers: Ralph and Ernest; three sisters: Mildred Bobko, Helen Remedio, and Katherine Piergiovanni, precede Charles in death. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Tuesday and from 9:00 – 9:30 Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel. The family requests that any contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Charles’s name.
