Charles Chuckie Derr

Cortland Our beloved Charles "Chuckie" Derr, 56, went to be the Lord on Saturday evening, December 13, 2014 as a result of Colon Cancer, with his family by his side. Charles was born on June 20, 1958 in Warren, OH, the son of Charles Derr and Patricia (Lanahan) Derr, he was a lifelong resident of Cortland, OH. Charles was an active member of St. Roberts Church. He retired from Copperweld Steel and was currently employed by Exal Aluminum. Chuck's love of life and giving nature affected the life of many people including co-workers and friends. Left to cherish the memories are his wife of 26 years, Renee (Mctheny) Derr, his two amazing children, Anthony Derr of St. Petersburg, FL, and Katie Derr of Cortland, OH; his mother Patricia Derr and companion Bob Funge; his brothers, Randy (Amy) Derr of Lititz, PA, and Patrick Derr of St. Petersburg, FL, and his sister Pamela (Curt) Baker of Cortland, OH. Also surviving are many Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his childhood lifelong friend, Mark Montecalvo. Preceded in death were his father, Charles Sr., and his grandparents. Chuckie was an avid golfer, lifelong Cleveland sports fan, and especially enjoyed entertaining friends and family at his backyard pool. His personality, sense of humor, and infectious love of family and friends were a gift we all benefited from. He touched our lives and souls, and his presence in our lives is a blessing we will always be thankful for. He will forever be deeply missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Charles on Thursday December 18, 2014 at St. Roberts Church at 11:00AM, officiated by Father Kish Friends and family may visit on Wednesday December 17, 2014 from 4-7:00PM at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel located at 164 North high Street, Cortland, OH, and one hour prior to mass at the church. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley located at 5000 East Market Street #19, Warren, OH 44484 or the Hospice House located at 9803 Sharrot Road Poland, OH 44514.
