Charles Eugene "Chuck" Dorsey, age 76, of Mecca Township, passed on to the other side on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at his home. He was born May 20, 1932 the son of the late Alva and Lottie (Ford) Dorsey in Gad, West Virginia. Chuck served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Packard Electric Division in 1992 after 33 years. He founded 88 Auto Wrecking and Auto Sales in 1969. Chuck lived his life to the fullest and was a unique individual who was able to take his hobbies and passions and find ways to make them equitable, enabling him to provide a supplemental income to support his family. He loved all aspects of auto racing and spent many years on the local race circuit, winning championships at such tracks as Sharon and Canfield Speedways, with cars that he built himself. Chuck was an avid fisherman, at one point owning his own charter service, Ketch'em Quik Charters, on Lake Erie. In his later years, he enjoyed finding and restoring Speedex tractors that he would enter into area shows. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth A. (Uber) Dorsey; his children, Charles Dorsey, Charlene Corley, Thomas (Deb) Dorsey, Jackie (Bill Elston) Moore, Darla (Jeff) Fenton, Lisa (Wayne) Hardman, Crystal (Michael) Chrysler, Leonard Dorsey, James (Betsy) Dorsey, Deborah Derico, Amber Dorsey; adopted son, Pete R.; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Ed (Donna) Dorsey, Mary Holbrook, Virginia (Chuck) Allen, Howard (Sandy) Dorsey and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and children, Billy and Angela. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, special among them, Frank (Kathy) Miller. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland, where friends and family may say their final goodbyes from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Saturday, March 21, 2009.
