Charles E. Jones, of Youngstown, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2011 in the Intensive Care Unit at Northside Medical Center Valley Healthcare Systems in Youngstown following complications from a stroke. Mr. Jones was born on October 5, 1929 in Youngstown the son of the late Samuel and Minnie (Meltz) Jones and was a 1950 graduate of The Rayen School. Mr. Jones was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown where he served as past treasurer, member of the church council and was an active volunteer. He cooked for the monthly Men in Mission Breakfast. Mr. Jones was also a Past Post Commander of the American Legion Austintown Post 301. He was a past member of the Eagles Club of Austintown and the Croation Hall in Youngstown. He enjoyed cooking, dancing and tinkering on his cars. He was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. Mr. Jones worked for 29 years as a visual technician for McKelvey’s Department Store and moved to the Joseph Horn’s Department Store working there also as a visual technician for 19 years retiring in 1992 shortly after the store was bought by Dillard’s. Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Air Force had served his country abroad during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1954. Mr. Jones was married to his wife of 56 years the former Patricia J. Sharpe on June 4, 1955 and together they shared the love of four sons Jeffrey (Carmela) of Austintown, Charles “Chuck” II of New Port Richey, Fl, David A. of Youngstown and Christopher J. of Youngstown; and four grandchildren Jennifer, Samuel, Bryan and Lukas Jones. He is also survived by his twin sister Charlotte Britton of Youngstown and a sister Mary Jane Baker of Struthers. His parents, brothers Wilbur, Edgar and Robert Jones and a sister Ida Mae Gerthung preceded him in death. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 11, 2011 from 4 until 7 p.m. in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel 5797 Mahoning Ave, Austintown and again on Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 9:30 until 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 162 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown, Ohio 44515. A Funeral Service celebrating Mr. Jones’s life will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown with Pastor Paul Toelke as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield. As a sign of condolence, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Mr. Jones’s name to Grace Lutheran Church. The family of Mr. Jones would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Northside Medical Center for all of their care to Charles and the support they showed to his family during his final days.
