Charles J. Zimmerman, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church for Charles J. Zimmerman Jr. of Berlin Center who passed away on Sunday at Essex of Salem Care Center. Charles was born February 2, 1923 in Youngstown, the son of Charles J. and Bertha (Miller) Zimmerman. A WWII Army Veteran serving as a Staff Sergeant, he was also the clerk-treasurer at the Western Reserve High School upon its opening and until 1977. A self-employed Dairy farmer, Charles was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in North Jackson. Besides his wife, the former Dorothy M. Howard whom he married February 14, 1942, Charles leaves four children: Dolly Bennett of Berlin Center, Marjorie Richards of Diamond, Carolyn Yeager of West Sunbury, PA, and Donald J. Zimmerman of Ellsworth. Charles also leaves a sister Verna Bowman of Columbiana, 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant daughters Merry Lou and Barbara Jane Zimmerman, a grandson Brian Metts, a son Charles H. Zimmerman, and a daughter L. Marie Metts. Friends and family may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel and one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the Church.
