Charles James Ruffner Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, July 10th at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Austintown for Charles James Ruffner Jr., 85 of Austintown, who passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital. Charles was born March 20, 1933 in Austintown the son of Charles J. Sr. and Harriett (Kroeck) Ruffner. He was a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School class of 1951 and attended Youngstown College for photography. Chuck was a veteran serving in the US. Air Force. He retired in 1988 as an inspector for the truck line of General Motors where he worked for more the 20 years. Charles had also been the co-owner of a Pure Oil Station in Warren, the owner of Ruffner Photography, and worked as a Cornwell Tool Salesman. He was a member of Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Choir, an Elder and a member of the Kings Kids. He was also involved with United World Missions making Many mission trips to Africa, Guatemala, Venezuela, Belgium, Bolivia, and Alaska building schools and churches. Charles was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Cub Master for Pack 140 at Davis School and as Scout Master for Troop 72 at Mahoning Methodist Church. He was also one of the original members of the "Optimist Club" in Austintown. Charles was an avid wood worker and after his retirement he helped build homes with his son Brad. He also was a pilot and enjoyed flying. He leaves his wife of 64 years, the former Lois J. Little, who he married October 6, 1953, four children, Charles "Chip" (Lucy) Ruffner III of Austintown, Vicki (Joe) Conley of Austintown, Brad (Cheryl) Ruffner of Lake Milton, and Steve Ruffner of Youngstown. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Julie (Dennis) Hager, Amy (Steve) Szopo, Nadine (Dominic) Bowell, Daniel (Heather) Conley, Rebecca Ruffner, Christopher Ruffner, and Benjamin Conley, as well as nine great grandchildren, Devon, Sadie, Max, Cooper, Gavin, Owen, Cami, Ella, and Avery. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Stock. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and again Tuesday morning 9 to 10 AM at Tabernacle Evangelical Church where services will begin at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church Youth Mission Fund in Chucks name.
