Charles Patrick Filipovich, 96, formerly of Masury, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at The Inn of Christine Valley in Youngstown, Ohio. He was born on January 31, 1919 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, son of the late, Nick Sr. and Anna (Dragacsiokavitz) Filipovich. A 1937 graduate from Brookfield High School, Chuck went on to serve our country from 1937 to 1939 in the Civilian Conservation Corps and then the United States Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945 in the 482 D Bombardment Squadron during World War II as a gunner. His decorations and citations include the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and Victory Medal. Mr. Filipovich retired from Westinghouse Electric Co. in 1981 to care for his loving wife of 40 years, Joann. He was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Sharon, Pennsylvania and he enjoyed and excelled at golfing, bowling and gardening. Mr. Filipovich is survived by his son, Charles "Skip" Filipovich, Jr. and wife, Bonnie Filipovich of Boardman, Ohio; daughter, JoAnn "Penny" Benham and husband, Daniel Benham of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Pamela (Donald) Boughner, Tamara "Tammy" (Patrick) Leeper, Tracey (Rob) Marzonie, Tina (Jeff) Thomas, Wendy (Kevin) Gadd, Stacie (James) Condino; great grandchildren, Ben Boughner, Sydney Cox, Madelyn Cox, Rachael Marzonie, Samantha Marzonie, Joshua Thomas, Thomas Gadd, Paul Condino, James Condino; and 1 brother, John Filipovich of Boarman, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Angeline "Joann" Filipovich; 2 sisters, Helen Crisan and Violet Crisan; and 4 brothers, Rudy Filipovich, Steve Filipovich, Nick Filipovich, Jr., and Joseph Filipovich. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 40 South Irvine Avenue, Sharon, PA, from 10:00 A.M. To 12:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at the church at 12:00 P.M. with Father Henry Andrae officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hermitage, PA. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at The Inn at Christine Valley for their kind and compassionate care given to their father over the past five years.
