Clare Ewing

Mr. Clare Ewing, 95, of Howland Twp. passed away 11:45 PM Saturday Jan. 1, 2011 at Shepherd of the Valley Howland. He was born Nov. 25, 1915 in Warren the son of Jesse and Alice (Marsh) Ewing. A lifetime area resident, Clare was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and worked at Republic Steep Corp. as a machinist retiring after 40 years as supervisor of the machine shop. He was a lifelong member of the Second Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder, and on various committees. He also was a member of Anglers Anonymous, the Republic Steel Supervisors Club, and BPO Elks 295. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening, boating, water skiing, and was a former Boy Scout. His wife Betty (Smith) Ewing whom he married in 1946 preceded him in death in 1966. His wife Hazel (Nims) Ewing whom he married July 5, 1968 preceded him in death Feb. 24, 2002. Clare also was preceded in death by 2 brothers Robert and William, a sister Justine Williams, and a son-in-law Kenneth Kemerer. He will be sadly missed by 2 sons James and wife Astrid of Kenner, LA, William and wife Sandra of Girard, and a daughter Janet Kemerer and her companion Scott Irwin of Washingtonville, OH. He also leaves 4 grandchildren Paul Ewing, Robin Bodem, Lisa Wolfe, Heather Logan, 4 great grandchildren Matthew, Austin, Liam, and Rowan, 3 nephews and 1 niece. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday Jan. 6, 2011 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received for 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park. The family suggests material contributions be made to the staff appreciation fund at Shepherd of the Valley 4100 North River Rd. NE Warren, OH 44483.
