Cleo M. Simpson

Services will be held at 11:00am Friday, June 15 at the Lane Family Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Cleo M. Simpson, 83, of Franklin, Indiana formerly of Austintown who passed away Franklin United Methodist Community. Cleo was born February 24, 1929 in Austintown the daughter of Herbert and Martha (Seifert) DeHoff. She graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1947, and a graduate of Asbury College in 1951 with a BA in English then received her teaching degree from Youngstown State University. On June 21, 1957 Cleo married James G. Simpson. In 1974 she earned her masters degree in Education at Indiana Central College. She taught 2nd grand education in Youngstown Ohio. In 1960 she left teaching for mission work in Sierra Leone West Africa. Upon returning from Africa, Cleo and her husband settled in Indianapolis where she taught at Clinton Young Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1990. After retirement, Cleo and her husband Jim traveled to every state in the US and every province in Canada except one. She enjoyed traveling, reading, teaching, teaching Sunday School and tutoring for the local schools. Cleo is survived by her husband James G. Simpson, one son Timothy D. Simpson of Romney IN, two grandchildren, James "Billy" Simpson and Wendy Simpson, two step-children, Jan (Mark) Duffin of Carmel IN and James V. (Glenda) Simpson of Indianapolis IN. Cleo also leaves four step-grandchildren, Benn Duffin, Steven Duffin, Nichole Simpson, and Natasha (Brett) Patterson, one great grandson, as well as two sisters, Marjorie DeHoff, and Ida Belle DeHoff both of Austintown. Besides her parents, Cleo is preceded in death by a daughter Carol M. Simpson, two brothers Herbert and Leonard DeHoff, and two infant sisters. Friends may call from 9:00am to 11:00am at the funeral home prior to services.
