Clyde E Lewis

Clyde E. Lewis, 93, of Warren passed away peacefully at 8:05 PM Wednesday Dec.8, 2010 at Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House in Poland. He was born February 2, 1917 in Fowler Twp., Ohio the son of Carl and Jean (Stoddard) Lewis and spent most his adult life in Warren. Mr. Lewis graduated from Gustavus High School in 1935 where he starred in basketball, and Bliss College School of accounting in Columbus, OH. He proudly served in the US Army overseas during World War II and was discharged as a staff sergeant in 1946. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater medal with 2 bronze stars, the Good Conduct medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and the WW II Victory medal. On May 29, 1948, he married the former Pauline Warso, who preceded him in death October 6, 2010. Married 62 years, they had a beautiful, happy life together raising four children. Mr. Lewis worked at Ohio Edison Co. in Warren and then Van Huffel Tube Corp., Power Strut Division retiring in 1948 as product manager of metal framing. After retiring from Van Huffel, he was associated with Flex Strut Inc. in sales of metal framing for a period of time. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church. For many years he and his wife delivered Mibile meals together. He was also a member of the Trumbull and Mahoning County Traffic Clubs and a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Lewis was an avid sports fan, especially of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He and his wife traveled to Columbus for every home football game for several years. He loved animals and enjoyed the outdoors, reading, and traveling, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him. Survivors include 3 daughters; Janet Lewis of Warren, Betty (Thomas) Kalan of Girard, and Mary (Gary) Rivin of Chagrin Falls, a daughter-in-law Bonnie Lewis Warren, two grandsons, David Lewis of Cincinnati, Gregory Lewis of Warren and 2 great grandchildren Bryan and Hannah Lewis. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son Dennis, a sister Cornelia, and a brother Walter. Friends and family may call from 6-8PM Friday Dec. 10, 2010 at Roberts-Clark Chapel. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday at the Christ Episcopal Church where friends will be received for 1 hour prior to the service. The Rev. Donna Maree will officiate. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park where military honors will be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League 545 Brunstetter Rd.
