Consolato Howard "Zeke" Zoccole

July 26, 1926 — February 20, 2010

Consolato Howard "Zeke" Zoccole, of Brookfield, passed away at 1:15AM Saturday, February 20, 2010 in his home that he built surrounded by his children, his brother and sisters. He was 83. Zeke was born July 26, 1926 in Sharon, Pennsylvania the son of the late Frank and Louise (Conti) Zoccole and graduate from Sharpsville High School. Zeke was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. Zeke was a Seaman First Class abroad the USS Howard W. Gilmore. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Star and the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged from the Navy on May 10, 1946. Zeke retired in 1985 from GATX as a welder and was the owner and operator of Zeke's Welding Service which he was very proud of. Zeke was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Vienna; the Howard W. Gilmore Memorial Association of which he was past president; and the GATX Retiree Association. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sharon Speedway; and enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the harmonica. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Zeke will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Zeke married his wife, whom he loved dearly for 59 years, the former Janet A. Jackson, who he affectionately called "Babe", on May 3, 1950, and she preceded him in death on November 4, 2009. Together they shared the love of five children Patricia A. (William) Grossman of Oviedo, Fl; Frank A. Zoccole of Henderson, NV; Elaine M. (Bill) Baum of Brookfield; Connie J. (Skip) Humenik of Brookfield and Shane A. (Floreme) Zoccole of North Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother Fred (Karen) Zoccole of Sharpsville; two sisters Frances Buzard of Hermitage and RoseAnn (James) Mahon of Fowler; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and by his pet dog Belle. Besides his parents and wife, Zeke was preceded in death by a brother Pasquale "Patsy" Zoccole and a sister Antoinette "Toni" Taylor. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 4 until 8 PM in the Lane Funeral Home Madasz Chapel, Brookfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 10:00AM with Fr. Frank Zanni, Pastor, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4453 Warren Sharon Road, Vienna, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20AM in the funeral home. Entombment with full military honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard will follow in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna. The family suggests that anyone wishing to make donations in Zeke's name be made to the Howard W. Gilmore Memorial Association, 440 W 40th Street, Shadyside, Ohio 43947.
