Cyril T. Barabas

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10am Monday at St. Christine's Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown for Cyril T. Barabas, 88, who died Friday morning at Briarfield Manor Nursing Home in Austintown. He was born September 11, 1921 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Helen (Fekety) Barabas, and he was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1939 graduate of South High School. He also achieved a Bachelor of Education degree from Ohio University and a Master of Education degree from Columbia University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WW II. He worked for 30 years as a teacher, coach and athletic director for Williamsfield High School and later Youngstown East, from which he retired in 1977. He coached football and golf, also serving as the Northeast Ohio District Golf Director for many years, and he was a lifetime member of VFW post 8841 of Youngstown. He married the former Mary Helen Morasco August 13, 1949 and she preceded him in death October 21, 1974. He then married the former Mary Lyden September 1, 1984 and she also preceded him in death January 2, 2009. He is survived by three sons; Thomas Barabas of Kent, Mark (Kim) Barabas of Orchard Park, NY, and Alan Barabas of Austintown. He also leaves behind a sister, Mary Konrad of Scotts Mills, OR; and four grandchildren; Dan Barabas of Kent, Kelley Barabas of Cleveland Heights, Alyson (Larry) Pignone of Fredrick, MD, and Courtney (Turnier) Esperance of Gilbertsville, PA. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Albert, Edward, Joseph, and William Barabas, and a sister, Helen Steele. Friends may call from 5-7pm Sunday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of The Valley in Cyril's memory.
