Darryl John Kovacs

Darryl J. Kovacs, age 50 of Johnston Township, died on Tuesday evening, August 31, 2010, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, following a courageous 17 month battle with cancer. He was born January 13, 1960 in Sharon, Pa. the son of the late Joseph John and Helen Fonagy Kovacs. Darryl was a lifetime Trumbull county resident. He was a 1978 graduate of Brookfield High School and a 1985 graduate of Youngstown State with a bachelors degree in geology. He worked for over 20 years for Exco Resources, Inc. as a senior geologist. Darryl served as a role model for his nephew, Dan, whom he coached in little league baseball and also raced remote control cars. He enjoyed rock climbing, kayaking, attending auctions and playing league ice hockey for many years as a goal tender. Darryl loved raising horses with his daughter, Hannah, and working on his dream log home. He is survived by his wife, Debbie J. Jones Kovacs, whom he married June 25, 1988; one daughter, Hannah Lanay Kovacs at home; one sister, Cheryl L. Yourga of Masury; his mother-in-law, Faye Jones of Bazetta Twp.; one brother-in-law, Lonnie (Kay) Jones of Middlefield; three nephews, Dan R. (Suzanne) Yourga of Wexford, Pa., Gregory (Shawnna) Jones of Windsor and Justin (Jackie) Jones of Huntsburg and three great nephews and one great niece. A memorial service will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Fowler Community Church, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.to noon before the service. According to Darryl's wishes cremation will be held. Arrangements were made by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. Memorial contributions may be made to the UTMA College Trust Fund for his daughter, Hannah c/o Cortland Banks.
