Don A. "Dutch" Drennen Jr., 76 of Liberty Twp., died Saturday evening, November 8, 2008 at 6:25PM in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center after an extended illness, with his wife and family members by his side. Born July 16, 1932 in Niles he was the beloved son of the late Don A. Sr. and Dorothy E. (James) Drennen. A 1950 graduate of Niles McKinley H.S, he attended Youngstown State University majoring in engineering. Dutch was a veteran of the United State Navy and upon receiving an honorable discharge, returned home to the Niles area where he began work at Grinell Sprinkler Co. He went on to become owner and president of Scholl Choffin Sprinkler Corp from 1968 to 1988 and retired from Fire Foe Sprinkler Co. in 1997. A lifetime area resident of the Niles and Howland areas, Dutch is still remembered for his childhood paper route delivering the Niles Times aboard his horse "Tony". Dutch enjoyed golf, fishing, camping, swimming and playing cards. He was an avid fan of OSU, the Cleveland Indians and Browns and of local boxer Kelly Pavlik. Most of all, Dutch was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Patricia J. (Derskovic) Drennen whom he married August 17, 1957. Together they have shared 51 years of marriage and six children; Jennie (William) Campbell of Houston, TX, Don A. Drennen III of Transfer, PA, Kathleen (Chuck) Campbell of San Diego, CA, Suzie (Nick) Roberts, John Drennen and Charles (Becky) Drennen all of Howland Twp. 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth Campbell of TX, Daniel and Alexander Campbell of CA, Chloe Drennen, Charles Jr. and Allison Drennen and Hannah and Abigail Roberts of Howland Twp., a brother-in-law William S. Derskovic of Fort Lee, NJ and many cousins and Friends. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Brian Byrne will conduct a funeral service Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at 11AM at the Howland Community Church where family and friends may visit for one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in the Niles City Cemetery.
