Donald Erwin Zabel, 85 Boardman: Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2nd at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Dr., Boardman for Donald Erwin Zabel, 85 of Boardman who died Monday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. Donald was born July 1930 in Youngstown, a son of the late Erwin C. and Helen Burkholtz Zabel and was a lifelong area resident. He grew up on the south side of Youngstown and graduated from South High School in 1948, where he was a member of the Sigma Club. Donald had also attended Youngstown College. He had been an estimator for the "Automatic Sprinkler" Company for 20 years and then an accountant for Scholl-Choffin for 20 years where he was retired. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church having served as an usher and also on the finance committee. He was a 20 year volunteer coach for the Flippers, a Boardman Youth Basketball program, consisting of 5th and 6th graders. Donald was a member of the Ball and Chain Square Dance Club for 30 years and had volunteered with his wife for many organizations including the Arms Family Museum, Boardman Park and Millcreek Metro Parks. He was also a member of the Boardman Historical Society and often gave talks about Boardman to different groups and organizations. He leaves his wife, the former Patsy Anne Feicht, whom he married May 17, 1958; a daughter. Diane Gluck of Canton; a son, David (Kathy) Zabel of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and four grandchildren, Zoe, Bradley, Andrew and Katherine. Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Stambaugh. Friends may call on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Anstrom Chapel, 8387 Tod Ave., Boardman and from 10:00 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church.
