Donald H. Quimby

Donald "Sam" H. Quimby, age 82, of Austintown passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Northside Hospital. Sam was born on November 8, 1932 in Youngstown; son of the late LaVern and Rosa (Draper) Quimby. Sam was a member of the Mahoning County Coon Hunters Protective Association for many years. During his service in the Army, Sam was a Bronze Star recipient during the Korean War. He also worked at Ohio Edison/Penn Power for many years, from which he retired at age 61. Survivors include his loving wife, Elizabeth M. (Lombardi) Quimby, of whom he married on September 12, 1953; his two children, Joseph (Nancy) Quimby and David (Michelle) Quimby; sisters Ruth McCoy and Dorothy Campbell; half brothers and sisters Howard "Sonny" Rogers, Josephine Pollo, Betty Jean Zgonc, Barbara Ann Stratford; and grandchildren, Zachary and Eric Quimby. Other than his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother Laverne "Bud" Quimby, Robert Quimby, and James Quimby; and his sisters Pearl Freeland and Mary O'Donnell. Funeral Services will be held at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Family and friends may call on Monday, August 31, at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations of monetary value be made in Donald Quimby's name to the Alzheimers Association 3695 Boardman-Canfield RD, Canfield, Ohio 44406. He will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
