Donald R Dockry Md

AUSTINTOWN-Donald R. Dockry died peacefully at his home Friday, June 15, 2007 after a long illness. He was surrounded by members of his loving family. Dr. Dockry was retired from private practice as a general surgeon, as an emergency room physician at St. Elizabeth Hospital and as an industrial physician at Commercial Shearing, Inc. in Youngstown. In his later years, he worked in emergency medicine at the Urgent Care Facility at the Austintown Ambulatory Center and for the Workers Compensation of the State of Ohio. He was the Austintown Fitch football team physician for 23 years. Dr. Dockry was a 1984 recipient of the Austintown Community Council Hall of Fame Award. Dr. Dockry was born in Painesville, Ohio on August 30, 1922 the son of the late Bartolemew and Kathryn (O’Brien) Dockry. He attended St. Mary’s and Harvey High School, both in Painesville. He graduated from John Carroll University with a bachelor of science degree in 1943 and St. Louis University with a medical degree in 1947. Dr. Dockry completed his internship and surgical residency at St. Elizabeth Hospital 1947-1951. He was an officer in the United States Army having served during the Korean War in LaRochelle, France at the 28th General Hospital from 1951-1952. In 1950 Dr. Dockry married the former Marjorie Herschel. They have nine children and 17 grandchildren. Dr. Dockry was a member of the active staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital and of the Youngstown Hospital Association, Mahoning County Medical Society, American College of Surgeons, American College of Emergency Physicians, and the Ohio State Medical Association. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 4237, charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Elks Lodge 55 and the Chesterton Club. Dr. Dockry is survived by his wife Marjorie and by their children, Ann LaCivita of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Bart (Terry) Dockry of Canfield; Joan (Abe) Ghods of Mansfield, Pennsylvania; Tom Dockry of Austintown now in Iraq; Marjorie (John) Bianco of Hubbard; Michael (Marie) Dockry; Molly (Pat) Roche; Donald (Paulette) Dockry; and Shawn Dockry all of Austintown. “Pop,” as he was affectionately known to his family and loved ones, will be sadly missed by his 17 grandchildren: Brendan and Megan LaCivita; Maran and Conor Dockry; Jason, Janon, and Janie Ghods; Michelle, Kaitlin, and Andrea Dockry; Shane, Kara, and Kacie Roche; Courtney Dockry; and Ian and Mackenzie Pinkerton and Mariah. He leaves a brother Tom of San Diego, CA. Besides his parents, Dr. Dockry was preceded in death by a sister Jane Kraynick. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 from 4 until 8 PM in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10AM Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20AM in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Dr. Donald R. Dockry MD Scholarship Fund.
