Doreen E. Fahndrich

August 6, 1940 — March 12, 2012

On Monday morning March 12, 2012, Heavens doors opened and welcomed a new angel home. Doreen E. Fahndrich was born on August 6, 1941 in Cortland, OH the daughter of Kenneth V. Hiestand and Mildred (Law) Hiestand. Doreen Fahndrich was a graduate of Brookfield High School and had attended Bowling Green University prior to transferring to Youngstown State University where she graduated with a degree in education. She went on to take advanced classes upon graduation and began her teaching career at Leavitt Elementary in Leavittsburg, Ohio in 1963. After moving to Brookfield, she then transferred to Addison Elementary where she completed her more than thirty-two years teaching career teaching both second and fourth grades. On August 1, 1964 she was united in marriage with her husband Donald Fahndrich with whom she would share more than forty-seven years of marriage. Doreen never uttered an unkind word about anyone and throughout her lengthy period of illness kept the most positive attitude. She enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona, her Thursday bowling league with the "Girls" where she was affectionately known as "Wiggles", an occasional trip to the casinos and especially her summers at Lake Milton. In addition to the love of her life husband Don, she is survived by her beloved children and grandchildren; her daughter Anissa D. Knapik her husband Paul and their son Ryan of Boardman, OH; her son Christopher S. Fahndrich his wife Carina and their daughters Kristin and Karissa of Masury, OH; her brother Laird L. Hiestand and his wife Shirley of Kingman, AZ and their three sons and spouses; and by her brother-in-law Dr. Alan R. Fahndrich and his wife Carrie and their two sons of Folsom, CA. The family would like to express their most sincere thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and the entire staff of St. Elizabeth's Boardman Medical Center, Hampton Woods, Vibra Hospital, and the Hospice of the Valley, for their care, understanding, and treatment that they provided Doreen during her most difficult period. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening at the Madasz Funeral Chapel 6923 Warren-Sharon Road Brookfield, OH from 4:00-7:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday at the funeral home beginning at 4:00PM with Sister Darla Vogelsang presiding. At the conclusion of the services the family wishes to invite you to a dinner in celebration of Doreen's life which will be held a Tiffany Manor in Brookfield. As an expression of sympathy the family requests that any contributions in Doreen's memory be made to Hospice House Care of Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
