Doris E. Rice of Brookfield, Ohio, died at 03:05 AM Thursday (02/19/2009) at her home surrounded by her family. She was 82 years old. Mrs. Rice was born on the family farm in Brookfield, Ohio on February 05, 1927, a daughter of Elmer D. and Leora E. (Jones) Lohr. A 1945 graduate of Brookfield High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Ray J. Rice on May 5, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, and together they shared forty-six years of marriage. Mrs. Rice was a lifelong member of the Brookfield United Methodist Church, where she had served as a trustee. Her many activities included being a Charter Member of the Opti-Mrs Club since its inception in 1954, the Brookfield-Masury Womens' Club, Brookfield Noonday Club, and with her husband the Good Sam Travelers Club. Mrs. Rice was well-known for her famous cooking and baking talents, especially her pies, chicken noodle soup and special birthday cakes. She will be remembered most as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a truly devoted friend. Survivors include: her two sons Ray J. Rice Jr., Judge Ronald J. Rice and his wife, Judge Cynthia W.; two daughters, Attorney Teresa Rice Daugherty and her husband, James D. all of Brookfield, OH , and Patricia E. Inskeep and her companion, Randy DeMoss of Hubbard, OH; her sister, Shirley M. Yassall and her husband, Anthony D. also of Brookfield, OH; her eight grandchildren, Ray J. Rice III, Adam J. Daugherty, Brian J. Daugherty, Tyler W. Rice, Madison W. Rice, Morgan W. Rice, Daniel A. Inskeep, and Scott G. Inskeep; two great-grandchildren Caitlyn Rice and Connor Rice; many nieces and nephews as well as countless friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life and beloved husband, Judge Ray J. Rice who died April 4th, 1992; by an infant daughter, and her sister, Bernice Rawe. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM Monday at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel in Brookfield with Rev. Bill Johnson of the Brookfield United Methodist Church, Pastor. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brookfield Township Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions be made to the Brookfield United Methodist Church.
