Doris Mae Sickle Holecko, of Lake Milton, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 5:45 a.m. in the Sterling House in Youngstown. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Holecko was born on June 22, 1925 in Diamond the daughter of the late Gail and Mary (Thompson) Sickle and was a graduate of Palmyra High School. Mrs. Holecko supported and devoted time to her community. She enjoyed participating in community events with the Fire Station, Lake Milton State Park and other churches. She held office with many organizations including Our Lady of the Lakes St. Catherine Church ladies guild, the American Legion Post 717 Women's Auxillary and the Women's League of Lake Milton. Mrs. Holecko immensely enjoyed her grandchildren. From babysitting when they were small, sometimes eight at a time, celebrating birthdays, dancing at their weddings or just having a picnic at the Lake on Sunday. She loved spending time with her family and friends. During her time at Sterling House, she was regarded as the lady who smiled and comforted others. Mrs. Holecko was married on February 23, 1946 to Joseph J. Holecko Sr. and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1997. Mrs. Holecko is survived by a son Joseph J. (Elaine) Holecko Jr. of North Jackson; a daughter Bonnie (Darryl) Prusky of Lake Milton; a son-in-law David Hahlen of Lake Milton; three sisters Mildred Soos of Newton Falls; Lucille (Robert) Goynes of Lake Milton and Etta (Norman) June of Lake Milton; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband Joe, Mrs. Holecko was preceded in death by a daughter Nancy Hahlen; two brothers Glenn and Don Sickle and two sisters Betty Hughes and Audrey Cain. Calling hours will take place on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave, Austintown, Ohio 44515. Services will begin on Friday, January 28, 2011 with closing prayers to be recited at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be said at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lakes St. Catherine Church, 1254 Grandview Road, Lake Milton, Ohio 44429 with Fr. David W. Merzweiler as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Mrs. Holecko's name to Grace Hospice of Ohio, 7206 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
