Dorothy B. Perris

Dorothy B. Perris, age 84, of Cortland, died on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren. She was born on September 14, 1926, in Warren, a daughter of the late William Ball and the late Vivian F. Creutz Ball. Dorothy was a member of the Cortland United Methodist Church, charter member of the Ohio Child Conservation League, charter member of the Lakeview Booster Club and was instrumental in organizing the Lakeview Marching Band. She enjoyed bowling, singing in her church choir and also started the Children's Choir at her church. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy attended Warren Business College and had worked at the Packard Electric office, Roy Palmer Accounting office, as Petrak & Wollams secretary and was the office manager for the Girl Scouts in Niles for 12 years, retiring in 1976. She is survived by her husband, Louis Perris whom she married on October 18, 1947; son, Larry A. (Deb) Perris of Bristolville and a sister, Selma F. Marrie of Youngstown. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Travis (Kim) Perris, Michael (Tiffany) Perris, Emily Perris and Jason (Kellie) Cleland and eight great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Cleland and 2 brothers, James S. Ball and William C. Ball. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 6 PM 8 PM at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Cortland.
