Dorothy J. Hille

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Dorothy Jane “Dolly” Hille of Canfield who passed away on Saturday December 16th. Dorothy was born February 21, 1915 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the daughter of Walter and Charlotte Mattison. She graduated from Bay View High School in Milwaukee and received the Gold Medal for Scholarship and Service. Dorothy graduated from Marquette University with degrees in Education and Accounting. She was elected to the National Jesuit Honor Society Alpha Sigma Nu and was first Marquette woman elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. At age 25, Dorothy was only the second woman in the State of Wisconsin to pass all exams to become a Certified Public Accountant. She taught in the Milwaukee School system for four years and at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown for five years. Dorothy received her M.B.A. degree from Kent State University and was elected Emeritus Life Member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Dorothy was a professor emeritus at Youngstown State University after teaching there sixteen years. She was the Chairwoman of the Youngstown Chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants for two terms. The President of the Mahoning Valley Machine Knitters Guild, she was also the secretary of the Western Reserve Knitting Guild. For five consecutive years Dorothy was awarded first and second place ribbons at the Canfield Fair knitting exhibit. She was also a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Canfield. Besides her husband Gunther, whom she married October 16, 1942, Dorothy is survived by two children: Barbara Jo (Hille) Bort and Brad G. Hille both of Canfield as well as five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
